Abstract Introduction: Brain natriuretic peptide (BMP) and N-terminal pre-natriuretic BNP has gain a great deal of attention in recent years and became an area of intense research as available biomarker in evaluating heart disease, since its physiological release has been related to conditions that inflict a stressful load on the heart, using BNP as biomarker is a routine practice in many centers around the world. Aim of the Work: The aim of the work is to identify the impact of final suboptimal TIMI flow (TIMI 0-2 vs. TIMI 3) on brain natriuretic peptide. Patients and Methods: This study was performed on forty five consecutive patients presenting to the emergency room of Ain Shams University Hospitals with acute STEMI who were candidates for primary PCI according to current guidelines. Results: This prospective observational study was conducted in Ain-Shams University Hospital between December 2015 and August 2016. Sixty one patients with STEMI were admitted within first 4 hours from onset of chest pain. Patients were assessed with regard to the eligibility of primary PCI among them 16 were not eligible for the study protocol. Conclusion: Statistical data showed a significant impact of sub optimal TIMI flow on BNP level in STEMI patients. Our data also found different statistical results suggesting multifactors that influence the kinetic of BNP in relation to final TIMIflow grade. |
