Abstract In this study,150 patients with various urologic disorders underwent unilateral ureteral stent insertion. There were 90 males and 60 females with ages ranging from 21-50 years. The mean permanence of stent was 69.84 days in males and 66.42 days in females. In males, the mean IPSS pre stenting was 4.98 and poststenting it was 12.03 while in females the mean IPSS was 4.47 pre stenting and 11.09 poststenting (P < 0.001) in both sexes. The mean IIEF score in males was 23.38 pre stenting and 14.53 poststenting(P < 0.001).Of 90 male patients in this study, 64 (71%) had abnormal erectile function (18 patients had mild ED, 35 patients had moderate ED, and 11 patients had severe ED).The causes of erectile dysfunction in 64 male patients included diminished libido in 20 patients, bothering irritative symptoms causing anxiety or depression in 30 patients, painful ejaculation in 4 patients and lack of satisfaction in 10 patients. Of 64 male patients with ED, 30 had stent duration of less than 1.5 months with the mean IIEF score of 20.15 post stenting. The remaining 34 patients had stent duration of more than 1.5 months with the mean IIEF score of 11.65 post stenting and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Of 64 male patients with ED, 28 had a mean IPSS of 10.85 post stenting with the mean IIEF score of 19.65. The remaining 36 patients had a mean IPSS of 14.78 post stenting with the mean IIEF score of 11.34 and the difference was statistically significant(P< 0.05).In female patients, the mean FSFI score was 32.08 pre stenting and 24.11 post stenting and the difference was statistically significant(P< 0.001).Of 60 female patients in this study,21(35%)had some degree of sexual dysfunction.Twelve patients(20%)denied any kind of sexual activity due to fear from practicing sex in the presence of a foreign body inside the ureter. The remaining 9 patients(15%)reported some degree of dyspareunia during intercourse(mild in 5 patients, moderate in 2 patients and severe in 2 patients). |
