Abstract Breast cancer remains to be one of the most malignant diseases in the female population. In contrast to other tumors, it affects an essential part of female self-consciousness, and therefore causes a wide range of psychological traumas. The choice of the reconstruction technique is dictated by a variety of factors that include the size and shape of the native breast, the location and type of cancer, the availability of tissues around the breast and at other sites, the age of the patient, the patient’s medical risk factors, and the type of adjuvant therapy. The final decision is often made on the basis of the patient’s preference. The patient’s selecting the technique and understanding its nature will result in the best aesthetic result and, more importantly, maximize her satisfaction and quality of life. The safety of the patient is essential and should always remain the primary concern in reconstructive procedures Autologous reconstruction utilizes the patient’s skin, underlying adipose tissue, or muscle, to recreate a natural-appearing breast, which is similar in form, consistency, and to size the patient’s native breast. The procedure is mainly used for partial breast reconstruction and/or correction of breast deformities followed by total breast reconstruction with other techniques. Also autologous fat grafting is used for therapy for post radiotherapy radio-dermatitis. |
