Abstract The comparative performance of the tested materials of 8 wt. % CF located at 1.0 mm from the surface showed that polyurethane (PU) coated by sand particles generated the highest ESC compared to epoxy and PU surfaces. Friction coefficient displayed by PU coated by sand gave the highest values followed by PU and epoxy surfaces. The contact and separation as well as sliding of the tested composites against rubber showed that epoxy surface gave the highest ESC followed by PU and PU coated sand. The same trend was observed for friction coefficient especially at higher loads. Based on the quantification of floor slip-resistance, the static friction coefficient of 0.5 has been recommended as the slip resistant standard for normal walking conditions. For all the tested composites, friction coefficient fulfills that recommendation at relatively higher loads. Concerns should be directed to the amount of ESC generated during contact and separation as well as sliding of the tested materials against both bare foot and rubber footwear. |
