Abstract

This study is a prospective randomized comparative study that was carried out in Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery Unit, General Surgery Department, Tanta University Hospital, Elgharbeia, Egypt from May 2016 to May 2017, on 30 patients with acute appendicitis, aimed to compare extracorporeal sliding-knot versus intracorporeal knot tying techniques in ligation of the base of the appendix during laparoscopic appendectomy as regard operative time, hospital stay, cost, effectiveness, and complications. The thirty patients were divided into 2 equal groups: -group I: subjected to extracorporeal knot tying (ECK) technique (15 cases). -group II: subjected to intracorporeal knot (ICK) technique (15 cases). All patients were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, Laboratory investigations in the form of Total Leucocytic Count, C-reactive protein and urine analysis and imaging study in the form of Pelviabdominal ultrasound and plain X-Ray abdomen in erect position. Then they signed an informed written consent. Our study revealed that: The mean age of ECK group was 29 years compared to 29.33 years of the ICK group. ECK group showed 9 males (60%) and 6 females (40%).while ICK group consisted of 7 males (46.7%) and 8 female (53.3%). The mean BMI of group I was 25.45 ± 2.76 kg/m2 ranged from 19.23 – 30.25 kg/m2, compared to 26.68 ±2.94 kg/m2 in group II ranged from 20.35 – 29.85 kg/m2 without a statistically significant difference between both groups.
