Abstract Biers block or IVRA is a practical method for short lasting procedure (about 60 minutes) involving extremities. Several studies were performed for improving quality of this method by adding different additives. Objectives: To compare between ketorolac and magnesium sulphate when added to lidoacaine as adjuvant in IVRA regarding onset of sensory block, intra-operative and post-operative hemodynamics and pain score. Methods: A total number of 146 patients participated in a randomized, double blinded study, patients were allocated into two groups 73 patients in each group, ketorolac group received anesthetic solution in the dose of 30 mg added to 40 ml of the anesthetic solution containing 3mg/kg of lidocaine, while magnesium group received anesthetic solution of 10 ml magnesium sulphate 10% added to 40 ml of the anesthetic solution containing 3mg/kg of lidocaine used for IVRA in upper limb surgeries. Results: Ketorolac group were found to have significantly lower intraoperative and postoperative pain score as well as less analgesic requirements compared to magnesium sulphate group, while magnesium group showed faster onset for sensory block. Conclusion: In conclusion, adding 30 mg ketorolac to lidocaine in IVRA showed better overall quality of anesthesia due to its intra-operative and post-operative analgesic effect when compared to magnesium sulphate |
