Abstract 1. The macro- and micro morphological characters of different organs of the plants viz; Leaves, stems and roots, Phytochemical screening, isolation and structural elucidation of the different constituents of leaves and stems of the plants and Biological study of Acalypha wilkesiana var.macrophylla (leaves and stems) including : anti-oxidant activities, Antipyretic activity. Anti-inflammatory activity, Analgesic activity, Anti-hyperglycemic activity and Antibacterial , antifungal activity. The results: A.wilkesiana is Perennial shrub abundant in house yard gardens, Shrub is 2-4 m tall. The leaves of A. wilkesiana var.macrophylla are Alternate compound heart shape (cordate) leaves. measuring 8-12 cm in length and 4-7 cm in width in the middle part. Stems are evergreen, quadrangular, erect, cylindrical in shape measuring 1 m in height and 0.5 cm. root is cylindrical dark brown tap root measuring 10-30 cm in length and 0.3-0.5 cm in diameter. The air-dried powdered leaves and stems of A.wilkesiana var.macrophylla were subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening of the different constituents that revealed that the powdered leaves contain a high concentration of flavonoids, phenolics(tannins), terpenoids and steroids, with a moderate concentration of alkaloids and saponins and absence of crystalline sublimate substances and anthraquinones. The structural elucidation was performed for 11 compounds on the basis of various spectroscopic methods including: 1D (1H and 13C), 2D (HMQC and HMBC) NMR, LRMS (ESI), and UV. In addition to comparison of the physical, chemical and chromatographic properties with authentic samples. Biological studies revealed that: All fractions showed dose-dependent antioxidant activity. Whereas ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions were the most effective and it was found that TEE has weak anti-inflammatory activity and this activity is higher in pet.ether and DCM fractions and finally The TEE, pet.ether and EtOAc fractions had antimicrobial activity against both gram positive and negative bacteria. |
