Abstract Substance abuse and dependence are widely spread among the general population and are associated with substantial social, personal, and economic consequences, causing severe health problems over time, even in previously healthy individuals. Tuberculosis, caused by infection with M.tuberculosis, is a major health problem and remains the leading cause of death from infections and increase with aging or weakened immune systems. In Egypt, tuberculosis constitutes a serious public health problem. People with low socioeconomic status are exposed to several risk factors including malnutrition, alcohol, overcrowded, less ventilated places with air pollution. Substance abuse is considered an important factor in the epidemiology of tuberculosis in both developed and developing countries.
