Abstract The dispersion is one of the main limiting parameters in optical communication links as transmission rates constantly increasing. Many methods have been suggested for employing dispersion compensation as a fiber Bragg grating (FBG). In this study we investigate the transmission and reflection spectra of FBG under the changes of grating parameters to compensator dispersion and investigating spectral characteristics of tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG). A coupled mode theory is used for analysis of FBGs. FBG characterization for dispersion compensation is achieved utilizing the reflection spectrum and group delay response analysis. Influence of various parameters such as effective refractive index n_eff, apodisation factor, and ac coupling coefficient, of FBG on its reflection spectra and group delay response is investigated. Building on this investigation a general conclusion concerning favorable parameters was proposed for dispersion compensation application. |
