Abstract The aim of this work is to study the effect of uterine affection on the postpartum reproductive performance and using ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool for detection of uterine affections and evaluation of treatment success. About 90 Friesian dairy cows were used divided into 2 experiments: The first experiment include 58 cows used to study the effect of retained placenta (10), endometritis (15) and pyometra (15) on postpartum reproductive performance compared with normal parturient cows (18) .The second experiment include 3 groups:Control group 1 (Normal group): Included 18 normal parturient cows without clinical uterine affection and all cows received no treatment. group 2: Included 16 cows which have clinical uterine infection after parturition and all cows treated with intrauterine infusion of antibiotic oxy-ject 5% at 15and 25 day postpartum .group 3: Included 16 cows which have clinical uterine infection after parturition and all cows treated with PGF2α by I/M injection at 15and 25 day postpartum. The cows in the 2 experiment were examined regularly after calving rectally and ultrasonographically for evaluation of postpartum reproductive performance as uterine involution and evaluation of treatment success. It could be concluded that retained placenta and chronic uterine affection as pyometra and endomertitis negatively affect the postpartum reproductive performance. PGF2α considered an effective treatment in uterine infections compared to oxy-ject 5%. |
