Abstract

A manager is posed in every situation in challenge of making correct and effective decisions to get the best solving of the problems. Study aims to determine decision making autonomy among head nurses and its relation to their problem solving ability in Port Said general hospitals using descriptive correlational design at seven hospitals in Port Said city, which affiliated to ministry of health in Port Said Governorate on 66 of head nurses. A self-administrated questionnaire was used for the present study consists of decision making autonomy questionnaire and problem solving ability questionnaire. Study concludes that the head nurses of Port-said general hospitals highly perceived decision making autonomy (76.1%) and moderately perceived problem solving ability (74.8%). Also, the head nurses’ decision making autonomy and problem solving ability are positively correlated. Continuing nursing education and staff development activities needed to improve head nurses’ knowledge and skill concerning problem solving ability is recommended.
