Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to find the association between intraocular pressure (IOP) and different grades of myopia from low to high and compare it with emmetropia and hypermetropia.
Methods: This is an observational prospective study done in the department of Ophthalmology over a period of 6 months. All participants were chosen from patients who came to the clinic for ophthalmological examination. 150 patients were included for the study. 150 patients (50 of them emmetropes, 50 myopes, and the last 50 are hyperopes) were divided into five groups by refractive status: emmetropia, mild myopia, moderate myopia, or high myopia, hyperopia. A complete ocular examination was done. Intraocular pressure was measured by standard Goldmann applanation tonometer.
Results: The highest value for the mean IOP is (14.806) in the high myopia group with ( p-value <0.001). There was positive correlation between the intraocular pressure and the hypermetropic group of patients with (p-value of <0.001).
Conclusion: This study found that IOP increases with the increase in myopia especially high myopia and is related to higher hyperopic errors.
