Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of Facebook groups on
developing some EFL writing skills among preparatory stage pupils. Sixty
Pupils enrolled in second year Preparatory at Abdelaziz Fahmy Prep school, kafr
EL- Meselha Shebin El koom,Menoufia Governorate were the participants of
this study. They were randomly assigned to two groups, an experimental group
and a control group. Each group consisted of thirty students. Both groups were
pre-tested in writing. The experimental group was taught through using the
facebook groups whereas the control group was taught through the regular way.
The researcher adopted the quasi-experimental design. The experimentation
took place during the second semester of the school year 2016/2017.Then both
groups were post-tested in writing skills at the end of the same semester. Thedata of the study were analyzed. Statistical treatment showed that there was a
significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group and
those of the control group on the writing post-test in favour of the experimental
one. Findings revealed that the facebook groups were effective in developing
EFLwriting skills of preparatory stage pupils. Based on the study results, it was
recommended that pupils should be given enough opportunities to use Facebook
groups to develop their writing skills. Moreover, teachers should encourage
their students to use such innovative tool.
