Abstract This study introduces three promising classes of modified chitosan adsorbents. The new chitosan adsorbents showed high efficiency toward different water pollutants. The thesis comprises three main chapters:- Chapter I (Introduction): This chapter presents a survey on the adsorption process via chitosan as efficient adsorbent for water pollutants, taking into consideration the survey of recent literature including articles, books, patents and websites in this area. . Chapter II (Experimental): This chapter represents a description of (a) experiments used in synthesis of different chitosan adsorbents, (b) characterization of modified chitosan adsorbents by different analytical and spectroscopic methods such as (FTIR, SEM, XRD, TGA, elemental analysis, water regain, dissociation in acidic medium, and point of zero charge), and (c) studying the uptake behavior of modified chitosan adsorbents toward three models of water pollutants (RB5, MB, and Silver ions). Chapter III (Results and discussions): The results can be summarized as follows: Part I: Two chitosan derivatives (RI, and RII) were prepared through two stages of chitosan cross linking with amino rich compounds. The prepared adsorbents exhibited enhanced removal efficiency towards RB5 in both acidic and basic Summary |
