Abstract

Summary
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered one of the most important diseases all over the word. The diabetic patients are increasing in the number every year. Early diagnosis and treatment are saving many patients’ life, and improve their quality of life. Diabetic patients have many serious complications such as cardiovascular and atherosclerosis, retinopathy, nephropathy and peripheral neuropathy .Diabetes affects all age groups young and old people. Early detection of the patients can change their life and avoid complications. T2DM patients is increasing daily due to bad life style and lake of activity and exercise .Obesity is a serious problem and a treatable disease. It can cause many complications and disability if untreated. SO control of weight and doing exercise is very important.
Our study was done on 67 diabetic patients T2DM, and 25 controls. They are divided according to BMI, body fat%, and FMD.
The aim of study to correlate between Irisin level, endothelial dysfunction and body mass index (BMI) in diabetic patients, and to see whether Irisin can be a new marker for atherosclerosis.
The results showed that irisin level is decreasing among diabetic patients and negative correlated with A1C. FMD is correlated with dyslipidemia and obese patients& also positive correlated with HbA1c. Uncontrolled diabetic patients more liable to obesity, and also Obesity is a risk factor for endothelial dysfunction.
Lastly we recommend that follow up and good control of diabetes is mandatory to avoid complications. Irisin and FMD can be a new marker for early prevention of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
