Abstract This study aimed at developing some writing skills for second year preparatory stage pupils through using some cooperative learning strategies. Second-year preparatory school students face problems during writing processes including: generating ideas, developing opinions, and organizing their writing skills. Sixty second year preparatory stage students at the Holy Family School for Girls in Mansoura city were randomly chosen and assigned into two experimental groups and a control group. The treatment of the study took place during the second term of the academic year 2014\2015. The study utilized the following instruments: a checklist of the most important writing skills for the second preparatory stage, an EFL writing skills test as a pre-post test to assess the pupils writing skills and a rubric to correct them. The experimental groups were taught and trained via cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) strategy and student team’s achievement divisions (STAD) strategy. The control group was trained by using the traditional method. The results showed an improvement and enhancement in writing skills for the experimental groups in favour of CIRC and STAD. The study recommended using the cooperative learning strategies for different stages and skills. |
