Abstract An essential key characteristic of Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular system is the implementation of efficient Radio Resource Management (RRM) architecture. For proper utilization of resources, best scheduling strategy should be implemented in order to allocate the resources among users in an efficient manner. Therefore, in this thesis different scheduling strategies are proposed. Firstly, a network with a single type of traffic is considered. A new scheduling scheme that supports Best Effort (BE) traffic is proposed. The main objective of the proposed scheduler is to maximize the overall LTE network’s spectral efficiency and at the same time ensuring high level of fairness in distributing the limited radio resources among active users. Furthermore, the second part of this thesis is dedicated to design and implement scheduling strategies applicable for supporting a heterogeneous mixture of Real Time (RT) and None-Real Time (NRT) traffic. The main target of the proposed schedulers is to control the delay, particularly for RT services, for example, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and video streaming. The proposed scheduling schemes have the ability to satisfy the required quality of service which is vital for RT applications. The expiration date of each packet, the channel quality, the average data rate that previously achieved by each user, and the number of dropped packets for each user compared with the average number of packets totally dropped, are all considered in the working mechanism of the proposed scheduling techniques. |
