Abstract 1- This work deals with some taxonomic studies on two genera of the family Fabaceae (Leguminosae) in Egypt: Ononis L. and Melilotus Mill. It was based mainly on extensive collections kept in ASTU, CAI, ALEX, CAIM and MAZHAR herbaria in addition to field studies. 2- A taxonomic revision of all taxa belonging to Ononis & Melilotus in Egypt was provided; diagnostic keys for the taxa were also given. The most important results, are shown in the following: - A detailed description for each taxon is given, which is based on distinct morphological characters. A map showing its distribution and ecology in Egypt and a list of the revised collections are also provided. - The most important diagnostic characters for the genus Ononis in Egypt are habit, leaf composition, leaf stipules, peduncle, length of arista, shape of pod and number of seeds per pod. |
