Abstract Mothers’ Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Early Detection of Hearing Loss Among Their Infants Background: - Hearing loss can cause significant adverse effects on the acquisition of speech and language, academic achievement as well as social and emotional development. The aim of the study: - was to assess mother’s knowledge and attitudes regarding early detection of hearing loss among their infants. Study design: - A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used in this study. Study settings: - This study was carried out in the clinics of two medical centers in Sigar and Boutros at Tanta city, Egypt. Study Subjects: - A convenient sample of 400 mothers accompanying their infants were interviewed individually. Tool of data collection: - Two tools were used: Tool (1): Structured interview schedule that was developed by the researcher including three parts; part (1): Socio-demographic characteristics of mothers and infants, part (2): Medical history of the mothers and part (3): Assessment of mothers’ knowledge about hearing loss. Tool (2): Mother’s attitudes towards infant screening and early intervention of hearing loss which included four main items. |
