Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on puppets theatre for improving primary students’ speaking skills. For this purpose, thirty five students (N=35) were randomly selected from the same class enrolled in the third year in the primary stage at Khaled Ebn alwaleed experimental language school, Nasr city administration in Cairo to represent the study group. The instruments included a speaking skills list, a pre/post speaking skills test to evaluate the students’ development, analytic speaking skills test rubric and the program of the study. Students’ mean scores on pre/posttest were statistically analyzed using t-test, and the effect size was calculated. Based on the obtained results, it was found that puppets theatre was effective in developing the speaking skills of the 3rd primary stage students. A set of recommendations and suggestions for further studies were provided. |
