Abstract Genus Acacia belongs to family Fabaceae. Genus Acacia is a heterogeneous assembly of more than thousand species, most of which are trees, found mostly in Australia, South-east Asia and in Africa and in South and Central America. Acacia species have been used as traditional medicinal plants since the early days of civilization and have a considerable medicinal and economic importance. The present study was designed to investigate Acacia modesta Wall. cultivated in Egypt with the following aspects: Part I: Taxonomical and botanical study of Acacia modesta Wall. Part 11: Phytochemical studies. a) Preliminary phytochemical screening of Acacia modesta Wall. non-flowering aerial parts. b) Estimation of the total flavonoid content of Acacia modesta Wall. non-flowering aerial parts. c) Metabolite profiling by ultra performance liquid chromatography- electrospray- ionization mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESJ-MS) ofthe ethyl acetate traction b) Isolation and identification of the major constituents of Acacia modesta Wall. non-flowering aerial parts. Part Ill: Biological studies. Part I: Taxonomical and botanical study of Acacia modesta Wall. plant. A. Macromorphology: Acacia modesta Wall. is a medium or small size deciduous tree. The tree attains 10 meters in height. It has a trunk (3-4) meters in length and it has spreading branches. The plant starts flowering from April to May. The leaves are deciduous, falling in autumn at the stage of fruit ripening. After full ripening of the fruits some of them fall and the rest remains on the tree until the next flowering season. |
