Abstract The aim of this study was screening for celiac disease among patients with chronic kidney disease This case-control study included 90 CKD patients from nephrology unit in pediatrics hospital Ain Shams University, 60 patients were on dialysis treatment & 30 were on conservative treatment. Their ages were between 2-13 years old, 47 males, 43 females & 200 controls from a primary school with ages from 2-13 years old 77 males, 123 females in the period between September 2015 and August 2016. All patients & controls were asked about GIT manifestations. Patients were screened for celiac disease by Anti tissue Transglutaminase IgG & IgA blood test. The plan was to proceed with endoscopy whenever a positive screening result is obtained. The data analysis revealed that: - Patients were significantly less in weight centiles and height centiles compared to controls - Overall, GIT symptoms were significantly more pronounced in CKD patients compared to controls and even more in ESRD patients - Screening for celiac disease by Anti tissue Transglutaminase IgG &IgA blood testing revealed no suspected cases of CD among patients |
