Abstract Speckle correlation is one of the most important characteristics of the speckle pattern for various practical applications. It is a second order statistics of a random variable describing how far is crowded the roughness of the surface material and its slope of curvature. Speckle correlation function arises from the convolution of spatial distribution of a diffraction pattern due .~ to the imaging system and the interference pattern of scattered waves from a rough surface. The present thesis gives more attention on the effect of the illuminating imaging aperture on . the speckle correlation. The effect of the surface roughness characteristics, from a simple theoretical point of view, is also studied. The Chapters of the thesis are structured as follows: Chapter 1 gives some information on the criterion of arising speckle pattern. The characteristics of speckle contrast, speckle correlation and previous work are presented. Chapter 2 gives a brief analytical study of Fresnel integral of diffraction. It also introduces a study on the spatial distribution of a diffraction pattern ansmg from some illuminating 11 |
