Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to measure the curve of Spee among different types of malocclusion using 3-D laser scanner technique and compare its accuracy with manual technique. Materials and methods: It was performed on 90 orthodontic study models, (30 class I normal occlusion, 30 class II and 30 class III). All 90 casts have been scanned. Curve of Spee measurements by manual and 3-D were done for three groups of classes’ and were compared by two methods of measurements. Results: ANOVA test revealed significant differences in between normal occlusion and class II and between class II and III, (P=0.00*). While insignificant difference between normal occlusion and class III. Besides, insignificant difference between two methods of measurements (P=0.205*). *P<0.05 Conclusion: Comparison between the two methods of measurements, it did not appear significant. However, the digital models, which were obtained from the 3Shape R700 scanner, were reliable and can be considered an alternative to cast models for performing measurements and analyses in orthodontic practice. |
