Abstract Introduction: Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and the frequent malignancy of the urinary tract. Clinical and epidemiologic studies have suggested that inflammation can play a direct role in cancer Inflammation, which orchestrates the tumor microenvironment, is involved in tumor initiation, promotion and progression. In bladder carcinogenesis, findings from numerous studies have suggested that inflammation is likely to have an important role mediated by IL6, IL12, TNF a, IL27. Aim of the Work: The aim of the present study is to determine whether there is an association between IL-6, TNF-α, IL-12 and IL-27 genes polymorphisms and susceptibility to bladder cancer in the Egyptian population. Subjects and Methods: A hospital-based case–control study will be conducted including about 180 cases, 120 from them are unrelated patients with bladder cancer derived from the Urology and Nephrology Center of Mansoura University. Patients will be divided into two main groups (60 each) according the stage and grade of the tumor, (group A) early or benign tumor Ta, Tis, T1 and (group B) advanced tumor T2- T4. The diagnosis of bladder cancer was confirmed in all cases by histological examination of tissue from resected specimens. Clinical data will be abstracted from patients’ medical records. The control group consisted of 60 healthy subjects from a routine health survey in the same hospital. |
