Abstract Triazole and tetrazole analogues play an important role in medicinal and bioorganic chemistry owing to their antimicrobial, antifungal, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory activities. O-Phenylenediamine (1) was reacted with carbon disulphide and potassium hydroxide to afford the corresponding 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (2), which reacted with dimethyl sulphate and potassiumhydroxide to give 2-(methylthio)-1Hbenzo[d]imidazole (3). The compound 3 was reacted with hydrazine hydrate to give the corresponding hydrazide 4. Hydrazide 4 was reacted with acetic acid to give triazole derivative 5. The triazole 5 was reacted with acrylonitrile to afford 2-(3-methyl-1H-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1- c][1,2,4]triazol-1-yl)acetonitrile (6). |
