Abstract

These studies describe the simulation of a conventional Propane/ Propylene distillation process and then with Bottom flash distillation systems incorporated, using the HYSYS computer software. The simulations are employed to assess the economics and finding the optimum operating conditions for conventional distillation and bottom flash distillation individually and feasibility of using bottom flash distillation instead of conventional distillation.
For the case studied, the optimum operating pressure for conventional distillation and Bottom flash distillation is found to be the same at 25 bar and Potential energy savings are shown by using bottom flash distillation instead of conventional distillation. We found ,by results, Distillation with bottom flashing heat pumps Increases the capital investment by 62% higher than the conventional distillation ones, but the operating costs are reduced by 88% which increase the return on investment result from choosing bottom flash distillation heat pump over a conventional distillation to 66 % .due to large steam consumption used in conventional distillation.
