Abstract The present study was carried on thirty one mature female balady goats, to investigate some histological and histochemical changes in the goat pituitary-ovarian axis in different seasons of the year. The samples were collected from pituitary and ovary of each animal and processed for examination by using light microscope. The investigation showed that gonadotrophs of anterior lobe of pituitary gland were increased during autumn, winter and spring seasons. During autumn, winter and spring seasons, all developmental stages of ovarian follicles ( Primordial follicles , primary follicles , secondary follicles , tertiary follicles and mature Graffian follicles ) were appeared,in addition to all types of corpora lutea (corpus heamorragicum, corpus luteum and corpus albicans). While the summer season was characterizied by presence of mature Graafian follicles contained degenerated oocytes and abnormal arrangement of cumulus oophorous cells and granulosa cells. Also, presence of persistence corpus luteum. The increasing ovarian activity during autumn, winter and spring seasons was related to an increasing of gonadotrophic cells of pituitary than that of summer season which showed ovarian inactivity and decreasing of gonadotrophic cells of pituitary gland. from this study we can concluded that the goat showed breeding season during autumn, winter and spring seasons, and showed anovulatory (non breeding season) during summer seasons. |
