Abstract Divergent squint or exodeviations is mainly a neurologic dysfunction, IXT is a prevalent exotropia sub type, representing 50–90% of all cases and targeting about 1% of the population. Surgery is belived to be a curative method for IXT. The objectives of the surgery for IXT are to regain alignment and save or regain binocular function. Adjustable suture technique is to decrease the need for a second operation by enhancing collocation in the early period following operation before the ocular muscle has properly reattached to sclera. This study was conducted on 30 patients in Beni-Suef University Hospital with Intermittent Exotropia (basic type), operated on by ripcord Laser-cuttable suture during the strabismus surgery. Sixty eyes were included fulfilling the inclusion criteria from November 2018 to December 2019. Inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed as Intermittent Exotropia (basic Type) above 15 years old with no previous strabismus surgery. The excluding criteria were any Patients with Other type of Exotropia ,below 15 years old with any previous strabismus surgery. In addition, the current result showed that ripcord Laser- cuttable suture technique allow an opportunity to alter ocular alignment postoperatively. The cuttable ripcord suture technique using argon laser is a new addition to the art of strabismus surgery. It is helpful for strabismus surgeons, who can use it for unpredictable cases. However, more studies are needed to be made with wider scale of patients and comparing the technique with control cases in whom surgically cut sutures are used and with conventional surgery. |
