Abstract Sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent among men and women with inflammatory arthritis, with diseases-related factors impacting fluctuations in sexual function and reduced sexual desire. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory multi-system connective tissue disorder affecting joints. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may affect all aspects of life including sexual functioning. These factors include: pain, fatigue, stiffness, functional impairment, depression, anxiety, negative body image, reduced libido, hormonal imbalance, and drug treatment. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence and nature of sexual dysfunctions associated with rheumatoid arthritis in females. This case-controlled study included 100 sexually active females with rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed clinically and laboratory as the cases group and 100 healthy females selected from fertility clinic in Mansoura University hospitals. After obtaining a written informed consent, the cases were subjected to full history taking and clinical examination including general examination, local genital examination and assessment of the disease severity of rheumatoid arthritis. Laboratory investigations were conducted including hormonal profile (estradiol, testosterone and prolactin). Assessment of the sexual functions of the included females was conducted using Arabic translated version of (Female Sexual Function Index) FSFI questionnaire. Quality of life was evaluated with the Ferrans and Powers Quality of Life Index. |
