Abstract Our study aims at application of Mammographic Breast Imaging, Reporting And Data System (BIRADS) in identifying category of breast calcification whether benign, malignant, or intermediate concern. This study included 30 women aged 33-80 years with mean age 53.37+_ 10 years old . mammography was done for the thirty patients. Out of the 30 patients, 9 patients were on the screening programs, 21 patients presented with breast clinical symptoms. Routine follow up was done for 4 cases with typically benign breast calcifications at 6 months for 1 year, and pathology was done for 26 suspicious cases through needle core biopsy and excisional biopsy. The final diagnosis was 10 cases with benign breast calcifications and 20 cases with malignant calcifications, The BI-RADS classification of our 30 cases were BIRADS II in 6 cases, BIRADS III in 3 cases, BIRADS IV in 10 cases, BIRADS V in 11 cases. All cases were in agreement with the histopathological diagnosis in benign and malignant cases. The benign calcifications included ( Fat necrosis 3 cases, fibrocystic disease of the breast 3 cases, fibroadenosis 1 case,1case plasma cell mastitis, 1 case of duct ectasia, 1case intraductal papilloma). The malignant calcifications were (invasive duct carcinoma 18 cases, 2 cases ductal carcinoma in situ). |
