Abstract

Schizophrenia is serious mental disorders characterized by severe cognitive impairments that affect patient’s ability to cope with stress and therefore, lower resilience and life satisfaction. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess the relation between resilience and life satisfaction among schizophrenic patients. Resarch design: A descriptive correlational design was used in this study. Setting: The study conducted at Psychiatric and Mental Health Hospital in Benha City, Qalubia Governorate. Subject: A purposive sample consisted of 100 schizophrenic patients was utilized in this study. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection: Tool (1):- A structured Interview Questionnaire included socio demographic as well as clinical characteristics of the studied patients. Tool (2):- The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Tool (3):- Satisfaction with Life Scale. Results: The result of the present study revealed that, more than three quarters of the studied patients had low level of resilience. Also, the majority of the studied patients had low level of life satisfaction and there was a highly statistically significant positive correlation between patient’s total resilience and their total life satisfaction. Conclusion: Inability of schizophrenic patients to deal with stressors are prone to have low level of resilience that in turn lower their level of life satisfaction. Recommendations: Constructing therapeutic programs and performing long term psychiatric rehabilitation to improve to improve resilience and life satisfaction among schizophrenic patients.
