Abstract Investigation of peanut genotypes response to drought stress could contribute to improve the drought tolerance and productivity. The objective of this study was to investigate new improved groundnut genotypes response to drought stress under controlled conditions to identify tolerant genotypes characterized with high yielding ability and drought tolerance related traits, to elucidate the information on drought tolerance of genotypes and nature of association of physiological and yield component characters with pod yield / plant and to assess the genetic variability of genotypes under drought stress. Thus, two field experiments were conducted during two successive seasons (2018 and 2019) in Agricultural Researches Station, Ismailia Governorate, to assess ten genotypes in a randomized complete block design with three water regimes and 3 replications. The water regimes were a full irrigation as a control (100% W), 75 % W and 50 % W of irrigation. Analysis of variance indicated significant differences among the tested genotypes for all investigated traits. Physiological and yield traits of all genotypes were varied under water stress and significant responses were observed. Genotypes No.5, 6, 3 and 2 showed the highest results for most of the yield and its attributed studied characters under the different water regimes. Genotypes No.3, 2, 9 and No.8, showed physiological ability to tolerate drought stress. Based on all the calculated drought indices in this study, the genotypes No.6, 5 and 8 surpassed all other genotypes. So, these genotypes are considered promising genotypes in peanut improvement programs to produce drought tolerant varieties of peanut characterized with high yielding ability. |
