Abstract

Kidney failure is a common health problem in Egypt due to the side effect of cancer treatment, drug misuse and environmental toxins. Cisplatin is chemotherapy with pronounced nephrotoxicity and several mechanisms have been proposed for cisplatin-induced nephropathy.
Diacerein is an analgesic drug that is used for treatment of osteoarthritis. Its active metabolite, rhein, has been revealed to possess various pharmacological properties, including nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor activities. Diacerein was reported to have a renoprotective effect against cisplatin induced acute kidney injury through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) have promising biomedical potential. The attributes of ZnO-NPs make them a suitable anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal agents.
This study aims to investigate the effect of diacerein and/or ZnO-NPs in acute kidney injury induced via cisplatin.
