Abstract Fishing is a dangerous profession in which fishermen face many health risks, which has a negative impact on the health of fishermen and their families. Despite scientific and technological progress, there is a lack of information on health problems faced by fishermen .Study aim; assess health problems and injuries related to occupational hygiene among fishermen at Ismailia city. Design: descriptive correlation design was used in this study. Setting; the study was conducted on fishermen were selected from Ismailia lakes. Sample: convenient sampling from selected areas, sample size (352). Tools; were used to collect the data through structure interviewing questionnaire, and health assessment checklist. Results: 90.6% of the studied fishermen suffering from dryness of the skin, 81.0% having upper limbs injures (fractures -wound’s). 90.9% of them having cough and 39.8% suffering from dyspnea. 46% of them had hematuria. There was a statistically significance relation between total knowledge and skills regarding occupational hygiene and sociodemographic characteristics of the fishermen with (P<0.0001),Near third quarter of them reported inflammation of eyes 74.4 % also, most of fishermen reported tinnitus, gum &dental problems and vomiting respectively (84.7%, 85.5%&83.5%) and clubbing nails in 90%of them. Conclusion: it can be concluded that most fishermen in the Ismailia city had poor total knowledge and skills regarding occupational hygiene especially information regarding prevention of diseases transmitted from fish, personal hygiene as well as poor skills regarding hand washing and use of personal protection equipment so they are exposed to many hazards ,diseases and disabilities Recommendation: Raise Fishermen awareness regarding protection of themselves from hazards to prevent health problems by using PPEs. . |
