Abstract Dissertation Abstract : Background : Mandibular fractures are among the most common maxillofacial fractures and are mainly caused by road traffic accidents. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of implementing educational program on mandibular fracture patient’s outcome. Design: Quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. Setting: The current study was conducted at Plastic & Reconstructive Burn Center and the Outpatient Clinic of Plastic Surgery at Mansoura University Hospital. Sample: A purposive sample of 80 conscious adult patients with mandibular fracture were recruited in the study; they were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size; a study and control group. Tools of the study: Three tools were used to collect the data: Tool I: Structured Interview Questionnaire, it consisted of 3 parts : Part 1 : Demographic data, Part 2 : Medical Health History and Part3: Questionnaire about Patient’s Knowledge regarding Mandibular Fracture. Tool II: Patient’s Health Assessment sheet, and Tool III: (TMD) Disability Index Questionnaire. Method: Data was collected three times from each patient in both groups using data collection tools. Results: The results of this study revealed that there were highly statistical significant differences (P<0.001) in level of knowledge at pre-test, post-test and follow up test. Recommendation: Provide adequate knowledge and skills about nutrition, oral care and jaw exercise to mandibular fracture patients to help them full recovery. |
