Abstract Ultrasonography and ACR TIRADS categorization are the primary methods for examination of thyroid nodules with moderate sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for diagnosis of thyroid nodules. Color coded Doppler did not add valuable data over ACR TIRADS. Ultrasound elastography can be routinely used in thyroid ultrasound scans. Adding ultrasound elastography increase sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for characterization of malignant thyroid nodules. It can select cases for FNAC, decrease the number of unnecessary biopsies and consequently decrease the hazards and costs. It can be an effective method in changing the clinical decisions regarding indeterminate thyroid nodules. It should be considered as anon invasive imaging technique to be used in combination with conventional ultrasonography. The anatomical characteristics of the thyroid and the frequency of nodular pathology make it an ideal organ for this technique. The combination of TIRADS and US elastography parameters (elastography color scoring and Strain ratio) can significantly improve the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules. It may provide a new and reliable method for the clinical diagnosis of thyroid nodules. |
