Abstract Left bundle branch block (LBBB) generally associated with structural heart disease is a frequent conduction disorder. In patients with LBBB and structural heart disease, overall mortality is significantly increased. Moreover, it is also known that the incidence of cardiovascular disorders and subsequent mortality is increased in isolated LBBB. In the presence of LBBB, due to delay of left ventricular (LV) mechanical activity, interventricular asynchrony and abnormal interventricular septal movement occurs. As a result of abnormal septal movement, stroke volume, ejection fraction (EF), and LV filling are decreased. The current study was conducted at Mansoura University Hospitals aiming to assess the impact of LBBB on the diastolic function. We included a total of 60 subjects who were divided into two equal groups; Cases group included 30 patients diagnosed with LBBB, and Control group included 30 healthy controls. All patients were subjects to complete history taking, thorough physical examination in addition to routine investigations. M-mode and tissue Doppler studies were ordered for all cases and controls. Our study showed the following findings: • The mean age of the included subjects was 43.8 and 37.6 years in the cases and control groups respectively, with a significant older age in the cases group. • Males patients represented 66.7% and 63.3%of subjects in the same groups respectively, with no significant difference between the two groups. • Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings were comparable between the two study groups. |
