Abstract The current study aimed at developing preparatory stage pupils EFL vocabulary building and retention skills through some vocabulary learning strategies the participants of the study comprised 60 pupils the were selected at random from third year preparatory stag pupils enrolled in elshahid abd alnassir qapil school, menouf city menoufia governorate during the first semester of the 2021-2022 scholastic year pupils were divided into an experimental group N=30 and a control one N=30 the experimental group received instruction using EFL vocabulary learning strategies while the control group received regular instruction the study adopted a quasi-experimental design a preregular instruction the study adopted a quasi experimental design aperposttest vocabulary and retention skills test was prepared by the researcher and administered befor and after the trea tment the finding revealed that using vocabulary strategies had a positive effect on developing preparatory stage pupils EFL vocabulary bulding skills and retention it is recommended that teachers and curriculum developers pay more interest to the importance of vocabulary learning strategies in EFL teaching and learning |
