Abstract Detection of the prevalence of neurological involvement among a cohort of Egyptian Behçet{u2019}s disease (BD) patients and to describe its clinical and radiographic characteristics. Patients and methods: The medical records of 180 patients diagnosed as BD, including NeuroBehçet{u2019}s disease (NBD) patients, who were admitted to the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation department, Cairo University between 2000 and 2020 were reviewed to analyze the clinical patterns in BD, describe the clinical and radiographic characteristics in NBD patients Results: In our study, the prevalence of females was 12.2 %, while prevalence of males was 87.8%, with a male to female ratio of 7.2:1. The mean age at onset of BD was 25.39 ±7.10 years. The disease duration was 10.86 ±7.55 years. Neurological involvement in BD was seen in 27.2%. Parenchymal involvement was seen in 81.6%, while non-parenchymal involvement was seen in 18.4%. The most common manifestations in parenchymal NBD (PNBD) were pyramidal tract lesions that was noticed in 44.9%. The most common manifestation of non-parenchymal NBD was headache that was reported in 61%. The most common site of radiographic affection in P - NBD was cortical involvement in 61.22%. While in non-parenchymal NBD, sinus thrombosis was seen in 46.93%. Modified Rankin scale (MRS) was found to be higher in the parenchymal NBD patients compared to the non-parenchymal NBD (P-value: 0.005) |
