Abstract

Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CC) is un-common disease which predominantly affecting older individuals with recent tendency of increasing ratio of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with increasing females affection. The aim of this study is to determine the clinicopathological features, treatment and survival outcome of CCA patients. Methods This is a retrospective study that included all patients with pathologically proven cholangiocarcinoma patients who presented to National Cancer Institute, Egypt in the last 10 years from 2009 to 2019. Results Through this period, 86 patients were assessed. The mean age of the included patients was 55.7 years ±11.4 (ranging from 23 to 78 years) while the median was 58 years with slight female predominance. Most of the patients had good performance status (PS), elevated tumor markers (CA 19-9, CEA), elevated AST and low hemoglobin level in almost half of them. Multi-slice CT was the main diagnostic study with single lesion was the most common finding and abdominal lymph nodes are the most common metastatic site. Surgical intervention was done in the minority of patients while most of them received palliative chemotherapy (82.6%) with Gemzar/Cisplatin being the most given regimen
