Abstract

Periodontitis is a chronic, multifactorial inflammatory illness defined by the gradual deterioration of the tooth-supporting system and linked with dysbiotic plaque biofilms.
Mechanical SRP can be used to treat these issues. We employed OFD with herbal medication AV, which was regularly evaluated for treatment of periodontitis, because the efficiency of this procedure is restricted because of the lack of accessibility in deep periodontal pockets.
AV Gingivitis and periodontitis can be effectively treated using its relaxing and healing characteristics, as well as its ability to reduce swelling and soft tissue edoema. Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties make it ideal for restoring gum health.
Oral pathogens such as Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Clostridium bacilli, Streptcoccus mutans, and Staphlococcus aureus are all susceptible to the antibacterial effects of AV gel. It is possible to employ AV gel as a local medication delivery system in periodontal pockets by administering it subgingivally and seeing an improvement in periodontal health.
Based on clinical characteristics and changes in alveolar bone using CBCT, this study evaluated the use of AV as an adjuvant therapy for periodontitis in the treatment of intabony abnormalities.
In this study, a diverse group of forty patients ranging in age from 20 to 55 years old were chosen from both sexes. As per the revised 2017 categorization of periodontal disorders, patients diagnosed with Stage III, Grade B, and localised periodontitis had their AV gel in OFD randomly allocated with at least multiple angular intrabony flaws whereas group II was treated with Placepo gel in OFD. Initial therapy and six months after surgery were used to measure gingival index, plaque index, probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment level. At baseline, three and six months after surgery, CBCT was used to quantify radiographic defect depth and defect angle.
from the beginning of the trial until the end of the six-month follow-up period, we saw an improvement in clinical indicators. As far as X-ray parameters go, both groups see an improvement. Statistically significant improvements were seen in group I (AV) compared to the control group from baseline to six months in.
