Abstract ZUB system In what refers to the level of intervention, the ZUB is considered an Automatic Train Protection System because the on-board equipment, with the provided information, commands not only the emergency brake but also the service brake. In what refers to data transmission, it receives intermittent information from the trackside devices (the information is provided at discrete locations) whereas the on-board equipment is continuously supervising the train speed in accordance to the breaking curves. The ZUB consists of on-board and trackside equipment. On the ENR secondary network, the following equipment version is installed: ZUB 212/ENR on board equipment ZUB 111/ ENR trackside equipment The ZUB on-board consists of the ZUB ObU (On-board Unit), the cab display unit, therelease/command button, the system fault switch/train class switch, the odometer pulse generators, the train coupling coils, the recorder unit and the brake activation unit. The ObU supports the train driver with a variety of automatic functions; among them, the following: It continually monitors the braking and the maximum speed of the train and provides exact speed information on the line section ahead. It calculates braking curves, triggers optical and acoustic alarms, initiates service braking and, in the event of a hazard, emergency braking. It processes all the data from the train coupling coils, the odometer and the driver control units. It outputs the indications to the driver, the service braking and emergency braking command and information to the recorder unit |
