Abstract This thesis introduces the design and construction of a novel low-cost laser vibrometry based on shadowgraphy, used to investigate the dynamic elasticity of tungsten at elevated temperatures. For this purpose, a filament sample was subjected to impulse excitation technique. The system was exclusively successful in measuring the dynamic elastic moduli of commercial-grade tungsten from room temperature up to near the melting point. Experimental conditions and parameters were studied to achieve best measurement accuracy and good matching between measured and published data |
