Abstract A novel cationic surfactants were synthesized through the quaternization reaction to obtain cationic surfactant (I) (1-dodecyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ium bromide), cationic surfactant (II) (1-dodecyl-3-mercapto-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ium bromide) and through Schiff base reaction then quaternization reaction to obtain cationic surfactant (III) ((Z)-1-methyl-3-((1-methylpyrrolidin-2-ylidene)amino)-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ium bromide) and cationic surfactant (IV) ((E)-3-((4 (dimethylamino)benzylidene)amino)-1-dodecyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ium bromide). The chemical structure of these four surfactants was characterized by Mass spectroscopy, FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopy analyses. Surface properties of the synthesized compounds were determined using surface tension techniques which showed good surface behaviors in their aqueous solution. The inhibition efficiency of these cationic surfactants was investigated by polarization, EIS and weight loss measurements. It was found that all the synthesized inhibitors were effective inhibitors and their inhibition efficiency was significantly increased with increasing concentration. Polarization curves revealed that the used inhibitors represent mixed-type inhibitors. Adsorption of used inhibitors led to a reduction in the double-layer capacitance and an increase in the charge transfer resistance.Adsorption of used compounds was found to obey Langmuir isotherm and showed a chemical mechanism. |
