Abstract This research is concerned with studying the web elastic local buckling load of simply supported steel plate girder containing web openings and subjected to a concentrated load. Through this study, the effect of several parameters on the web elastic local buckling load were investigated which include the opening position, and shape, and stiffening the web at opening regions. The results concluded that the circular opening is better than the square opening and should be placed away from the concentrated load to avoid the region of the maximum compressive stress, and at asuitable distance from the end supports to avoid the maximum shear zone.Furthermore, the rectangular opening should have asmall aspect ratio. Stiffening the web by both single transversal and longitudinal stiffeners at the opening edges restores all the loss in the web elastic local buckling load, and makes the perforated plate girder behaves as a solid girder |
