Abstract The past couple of years Western democracies have witnessed a substantial electoral success for right-wing populist parties. In terms of their campaign discourses and strategies, they are effective in directing a defensive attitude towards the political system. This study focuses on discovering and evaluating the populist{u2019}s stylistic features and elements as a mode of persuasive communication that has been recently adopted by leaders of mainstream political parties. Results found that Clinton and Cameron had been affected by this style and had emulated some elements of the populist style in their latest campaign discourses in 2016 |
