Abstract
Calamus rotangL.is a dioecious spiny climbing shrub, belongs to family Arecaceaewhich consists of about 181 genera and 2600 species,it is an indigenous plant of southwest Asia (India, Srilanka and Mynamar (Burma).restricted to tropical wet evergreen forests and subtropical regions (Christenhusz and Byng 2016).
Genus Calamus (cane or rattan) consists of 380 species.They are dioecious spiny climbing palms which are worldwide distributed (Uhland Dransfield, 1987).They have social and economic importance because of their characteristics such as strength.
