Abstract Calamus rotangL.is a dioecious spiny climbing shrub, belongs to family Arecaceaewhich consists of about 181 genera and 2600 species,it is an indigenous plant of southwest Asia (India, Srilanka and Mynamar (Burma).restricted to tropical wet evergreen forests and subtropical regions (Christenhusz and Byng 2016).
