Abstract The current study investigated the Egyptian postgraduate students’ challenges of writing English master theses. The researcher adopted an analytical descriptive study. A checklist of criteria for writing an effective thesis was developed. Based on the checklist, a content analysis of 40 theses written in English from four universities in Egypt was carried out. Results demonstrated that the candidates,whose theses were reviewed, encountered challenges with different aspects of academic writing. Thus, it is recommended that research methods courses offered in the universities be reviewed in terms of contents and teaching approaches to overcome those identified |
