Abstract Aim of the study: This clinical study was conducted to compare the anesthetic efficacy of 2% Mepivacaine with that of 4% Articainefor IANB in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in mandibular molars as regards to their anesthetic efficiency, during access cavity preparation and instrumentation utilizing the NRS. Participants and methods: The study design was a randomized blinded clinical trial as study participants and assessor didn{u2019}t know which intervention has been received. Sixty-six patients with vital symptomatic lower molar teeth received single-visit root canal treatment using ProTaper Universal rotary system for canal preparation, they were randomly divided into two groups (n=33) according to the anesthetic solution used for IANB either 2% Mepivacainewith 1:100,000 epinephrine or 4% Articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. Pre-operative pain, pain during access cavity preparation and root canal instrumentation was recorded using the NRS. If the patient felt moderate to severe pain during access cavity preparation or root canal instrumentation, a supplemental intraligamntry or intrapulpal injection respectively was applied to allow for completion of the procedure without any pain |
